The venom of theLoxoscelesspiders is a complex mixture of toxins enriched by proteins, glycoproteins and low molecular masspeptides. Several protein classes have been identified includingastacin-like metalloprotease, low molecular mass insecticidalpeptides, the inhibitor cysine knotpeptides(ICK) andphospholipase-D. The unique enzyme, sphingomyelinase D is responsible for the development of the necrosis^[1].
