2 mM 2-Keto-D-galactose causes a comparable inhibition of DNA synthesis. The proliferation of in vitro grown Ehrlich ascites tumor cells is completely inhibited by 1-2 mM 2-Keto-D-galactose without severely affecting viability (dye exclusion test).
