Background:

4-Methoxyphenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside is an aryl glycoside that has been found inPterospermum heterophyllumroots and has ice recrystallization inhibitory activity.¹,²It reduces mean grain size in a cell-free ice recrystallization assay and increases the percentage of intact isolated red blood cells (RBCs) in PBS post-freeze-thaw when used at a concentration of 100 mM.²4-Methoxyphenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside has also been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of glucan oligosaccharides.³
