背景信息:
ST6GAL2 (ST6 Beta-Galactoside Alpha-2,6-Sialyltransferase 2) is a Protein Coding gene. The ST6GAL2 gene, located on 2q12.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. This locus encodes a sialyltransferase. The encoded type II transmembrane protein catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP to an oligosaccharide substrate. Polymorphisms at this locus may be associated with variations in risperidone response in schizophrenic patients. Dysregulation of ST6GAL2 has been observed in multiple cancers. Aberrant high expression of alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 2 (ST6GAL2) was demonstrated to promote tumorigenesis of Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, ST6GAL2 promoted tumorigenesis by inactivating the Hippo signaling pathway. ST6GAL2 might serve as a useful potential target for the treatment of breast cancer.
