Aviculin, a lignan glycoside, is a potentanticanceragent. Aviculin reduces metabolic activity on MCF-7 cells below 50%, with anIC₅₀of 75.47 μM. Aviculin induces breastcancercellapoptosisthrough the intrinsicapoptosispathway. Aviculin increases expression of initiatorcaspase-9, executionercaspase-7, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). Aviculin shows an increase in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio^[1].
