CC -!- FUNCTION: Flagellin is the subunit protein which polymerizes to form
CC the filaments of bacterial flagella. FlaA is required to form a core or
CC scaffold into which the other flagellins are inserted to provide
CC structural integrity. Essential for flagellar synthesis and motility;
CC important for full virulence.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Heteromer of multiple flagellin subunits including FlaA, FlaB,
CC FlaC, FlaD and FlaE.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted. Bacterial flagellum.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: V.cholerae is able to differentially regulate the
CC flagellins within the flagellum maybe to produce flagella which are
CC particularly suited for motility within a given environment. A
CC flagellar filament composed exclusively of FlaA is fragile and easily
CC broken.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the bacterial flagellin family. {ECO:0000305}.
