CC -!- FUNCTION: Flavodoxins are low-potential electron donors to a number of
CC redox enzymes. FldP protects the cell from oxidative stress and
CC reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage, thereby expanding the
CC capabilities of P.aeruginosa to thrive in hostile environments, and
CC contributes to bacterial survival within the host. In vitro, is able to
CC mediate ferredoxin-NADP(H) reductase (FNR)-driven cytochrome c
CC reduction. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:24550745}.
CC -!- COFACTOR:
CC Name=FMN; Xref=ChEBI:CHEBI:58210;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|PubMed:24550745};
CC -!- INDUCTION: Up-regulated by oxidative stress conditions through an OxyR-
CC independent mechanism. Makes part of an operon that consists of
CC PA14_22510 to PA14_22540. Is repressed by the LysR-like transcriptional
CC regulator PA14_22550. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:24550745}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Cells lacking this gene accumulate higher
CC intracellular ROS levels and exhibit decreased tolerance to H(2)O(2)
CC toxicity compared to wild-type siblings. Inactivation of this gene also
CC produces a moderate but significant decrease of 24% in the
CC intracellular survival of P.aeruginosa in phagocytic cells. During in
CC vivo infection of Drosophila melanogaster, flies that have been fed
CC with the wild-type strain of P.aeruginosa die faster than those fed
CC with the fldP deletion mutant. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:24550745}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the FldP flavodoxin family. {ECO:0000305}.
