CC -!- FUNCTION: Part of the ABC transporter FtsEX involved in asymmetric
CC cellular division facilitating the initiation of sporulation.
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O34876}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with FtsE. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O34876}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O34876};
CC Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O34876}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Vegetative bacilli mutant cells exhibit a
CC distinct morphology in which individual bacilli appear kinked with
CC frequent curves and sharp angles among chains of bacilli. Grows more
CC slowly than wild-type bacteria. Affords resistance of vegetative
CC B.anthracis bacilli to human chemokine CXCL10 regardless of their
CC growth phase and to murine Cxcl9-mediated bactericidal activity. CXCL10
CC treated spores fail to germinate and resume vegetative growth
CC indicating that FtsX is not required for the ability of CXCL10 to
CC target the spore form of B.anthracis. In the absence of FtsX, CXCL10 is
CC unable to localize to its presumed site of action at the bacterial cell
CC membrane. No statistically significant differences are observed between
CC wild-type and deletion mutant bacilli susceptibility to cationic
CC antimicrobial peptide protamine. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21949405}.
CC -!- PHARMACEUTICAL: Potential therapeutic target of chemokine-mediated
CC antimicrobial activity against B.anthracis to treat infection.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21949405}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ABC-4 integral membrane protein family. FtsX
CC subfamily. {ECO:0000255}.
