CC -!- FUNCTION: Coral peptide that probably acts as an antimicrobial peptide
CC in the surface mucous layer of planula larvae and likely also in
CC adults. Shows moderate to high activity against some Gram-negative and
CC Gram-positive bacteria (tested on E.coli, B.megaterium, S.aureus,
CC E.aesturaii, B.algicola, Acinetobacter spec.). Does not show
CC antibacterial activity against the coral pathogen V.coralliilyticus.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:32937163}.
CC -!- BIOPHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
CC pH dependence:
CC Shows more potent antibacterial activity at pH 6.2 (approximate coral
CC mucus pH) than at pH 8.0 (approximate pH of seawater).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:32937163};
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000305|PubMed:32937163}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expressed at late stages of coral development
CC (late planula, polyps, and adults), in ectodermal cells.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:32937163}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the coral AMP family. {ECO:0000305}.
