CC -!- FUNCTION: Promotes tail assembly by creating a scaffold for the tail
CC tube proteins. Tail assembly proteins G and GT probably wrap the linear
CC tape measure protein to create a tail assembly scaffold. This allows
CC the polymerization of the tail tube protein, during which G and GT are
CC released, therefore they are absent in the mature virion. The tail
CC assembly protein GT is produced by a rare -1 ribosomal frameshift. The
CC ratio of translated G/GT is about 20, and this ratio is important for
CC proper tail assembly. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_04134,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:23851014, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23911548}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with the tail assembly protein GT and the tape
CC measure protein. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_04134,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:23911548}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Host cytoplasm {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_04134}.
CC -!- ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS:
CC Event=Ribosomal frameshifting; Named isoforms=2;
CC Comment=The tail assembly protein GT is produced by a rare -1
CC ribosomal frameshift. This expression strategy assures a fixed ration
CC of G/GT.;
CC Name=Tail assembly protein G;
CC IsoId=P03734-1; Sequence=Displayed;
CC Name=Tail assembly protein GT;
CC IsoId=P03735-1; Sequence=External;
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: [Isoform Tail assembly protein G]: Main product of the
CC GT gene, representing 96% of the translated protein.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the lambda-like tail assembly protein family.
