CC -!- FUNCTION: Hematopoietic cytokine that plays an essential role in the
CC development, expansion, and survival of naive and memory T-cells and B-
CC cells thereby regulating the number of mature lymphocytes and
CC maintaining lymphoid homeostasis (PubMed:7699333, PubMed:28811625).
CC Mechanistically, exerts its biological effects through a receptor
CC composed of IL7RA subunit and the cytokine receptor common subunit
CC gamma/CSF2RG. Binding to the receptor leads to activation of various
CC kinases including JAK1 or JAK3 depending on the cell type and
CC subsequently propagation of signals through activation of several
CC downstream signaling pathways including the PI3K/Akt/mTOR or the JAK-
CC STAT5. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P13232, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28811625,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:7699333}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with IL7R and CSF2RG.
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P13232}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P13232}.
CC -!- PTM: Three disulfide bonds are present. {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Deletion mice appear healthy at birth and develop
CC normally. Both sexes are fertile. However, they exhibit severe
CC peripheral blood and tissue lymphoid abnormalities showing a strong
CC dependence on IL7 for proper expansion of lymphoid lineages.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:7699333}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the IL-7/IL-9 family. {ECO:0000305}.
