RT "Ken & barbie selectively regulates the expression of a subset of Jak/STAT
RT pathway target genes.";

CC -!- FUNCTION: Transcription factor required for terminalia development.
CC Negative regulator of the JAK/STAT pathway: represses JAK/STAT-
CC dependent expression of ventral veins lacking (vvl) in the posterior
CC spiracles. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14518006, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16401426}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed from stage 5 in two rather faint stripes
CC at positions of 64% (anterior domain; AD) and 17% (posterior domain;
CC PD) egg length. During early gastrulation, at stage 6, these two
CC stripes become more evident and detectable at the region posterior to
CC the cephalic furrow and in the hindgut primordium. The AD disappears as
CC gastrulation proceeds, while the PD remains. At stage 15, the AD
CC appears again in the foregut, and PD expression in the hindgut and anal
CC pad. In imaginal disks, it is ubiquitously expressed in both males and
CC females in genital and eye-antennal disks. Not expressed in the brain.
CC In genital disks, it is expressed along the margin of the anterior
CC bulbus in males, while in females it is expressed in the posterior
CC compartment along the anterior-posterior border, with medial expansion
CC in the most posterior region. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10349629,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:14518006, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16401426}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expressed both maternally and zygotically. Highly
CC expressed in embryos and pupae, and at lower level in larvae. In
CC adults, it is expressed at higher level in females.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10349629, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14518006,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:16401426}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Flies show low mating success and reduced
CC copulation duration. Men and female genitalia often remain inside the
CC body, and genitalia and analia are missing in some homozygous flies.
CC These flies are named after the famous dolls who also lack these
CC 'features'. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10349629}.
