CC   -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: The unit of inflorescence is the spikelet, which

CC       two lodicules, three stamens and the pistil. The lemma is completed by
CC       the awn, an appendage homologous to the laminae of normal leaves.
CC       Expressed in the inflorescences and lemmas and at lower levels, in
CC       palea and vascular bundles.
CC   -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Periclinal cell divisions in the subepidermal
CC       layer of the awn primordium gives rise to a meristematic cushion in
CC       hooded phenotypes. Expressed before the formation of the cushion and
CC       continues as it is formed and in later stages its expression is down-
CC       regulated.
