CC   -!- FUNCTION: In the hair cortex, hair keratin intermediate filaments are
CC       embedded in an interfilamentous matrix, consisting of hair keratin-
CC       associated proteins (KRTAP), which are essential for the formation of a
CC       rigid and resistant hair shaft through their extensive disulfide bond
CC       cross-linking with abundant cysteine residues of hair keratins. The
CC       matrix proteins include the high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine

CC   -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: In the developing mammary gland, expression is
CC       barely detected in the immature gland at 3 weeks after birth but is
CC       evident at the onset of puberty at 3.5 weeks. Expression is high at 4
CC       weeks, declines at 4.5 weeks and is undetectable at 5 weeks. No
CC       expression is detected in the mature mammary gland during estrus,
CC       pregnancy, lactation or involution. In skin, expression starts shortly
CC       after birth and reaches a first maximum at 9 days. A second peak of
CC       expression is observed at 3.5 weeks, then levels decline and remain low
CC       in the adult. During the hair growth cycle, detected in mid- and late-
CC       anagen stages but not in catagen, telogen or early anagen phases.
