CC -!- FUNCTION: Required for early specification of the kidney glomus, lying
CC upstream of wt1 in the pathway controlling glomus differentiation. The
CC balance in levels and expression patterns of binding partners such as
CC lhx1/lim-1 influences differentiation into glomus or tubule
CC derivatives. Involved in specification of serotonergic neurons.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18687324, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20670838}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000255|PROSITE-ProRule:PRU00108}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Shows a temporal expression pattern in three main
CC areas: neural, kidney and limbs. From stage 13 onwards, expressed in
CC regions of the nervous system including the placodes and otic vesicles,
CC eye, specific sets of neurons, and in discreet regions of the neural
CC tube. From stage 13, also expressed in the presumptive pronephros, and
CC from stage 27 expression is predominant in the capsule of the
CC pronephric glomus. Also expressed in the developing forelimbs and
CC hindlimbs. In metamorphosing tadpoles, expressed in the eye, brain,
CC muscle and mesonephric kidney. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12755330,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:18687324}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expressed zygotically from stage 10.5. Expression
CC is elevated between stages 12.5 and 14, and continues throughout
CC neurulae, tailbud and swimming tadpole stages.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12755330}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: By activin; retinoic acid (RA) inhibits this up-regulation.
CC Expression in neurons is regulated by calcium (Ca2+) activity: the
CC lower the activity, the larger the number of neurons showing
CC expression. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12755330, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20670838}.
