CC -!- FUNCTION: Amphipathic peptide that exerts potent selective cytotoxic
CC and antiproliferative activity against three different prostate cancer
CC cell lines (IC(50)=4.4-7.8 uM), compared to non-tumorigenic cells
CC (IC(50)=59.7 in Vero and 62.5 in HUVEC cells). This peptide possibly
CC exerts its cytotoxic activity through a necrotic mode of cell death.
CC {ECO:0000269|Ref.1}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000269|Ref.1}. Target cell
CC membrane {ECO:0000305|Ref.1}. Note=Forms a helical membrane channel in
CC the prey. {ECO:0000305|Ref.1}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the venom gland. {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- MASS SPECTROMETRY: Mass=5398.1; Method=MALDI;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|Ref.1};
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: Only shows diminished hemolytic activity against sheep
CC erythrocytes. Does not induce cell death through apoptosis and
CC consequently is not acting upon an intracellular target.
CC {ECO:0000269|Ref.1}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the non-disulfide-bridged peptide (NDBP)
CC superfamily. Long chain multifunctional peptide (group 2) family.
CC {ECO:0000305}.
