CC -!- FUNCTION: Required for formation of the pseudocleavage furrow during
CC the first cleavage of the embryo and also mediates aster-induced
CC furrowing during cytokinesis. Promotes cortical recruitment of ani-1
CC and nmy-2 during pseudocleavage and cytokinesis and promotes the
CC accumulation of actin at furrowing regions. Regulates establishment of
CC embryonic cell polarity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22887819,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:22918944, ECO:0000269|PubMed:7729583}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22918944}. Cytoplasm
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22918944}. Cytoplasm, cell cortex
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22918944}. Cleavage furrow
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22918944}. Note=Highly concentrated in interphase
CC nuclei. As well as a significant cytoplasmic pool, a distinct cortical
CC localization is also detected, particularly at ingressing
CC pseudocleavage and cleavage furrows.
CC -!- ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS:
CC Event=Alternative splicing; Named isoforms=2;
CC Name=b;
CC IsoId=Q09314-1; Sequence=Displayed;
CC Name=a;
CC IsoId=Q09314-2; Sequence=VSP_053849;
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Mutant embryos do not display the anterior
CC cortical contractions associated with pseudocleavage and do not form a
CC pseudocleavage furrow. Cortical actin foci remain uniformly distributed
CC rather than the asymmetric distribution seen in wild-type embryos.
CC Approximately 20% of mutant embryos fail to hatch. Those that do hatch
CC are viable and fertile and display normal P granule localization.
CC Increased embryonic lethality in par-1, par-2 and par-3 mutants.
