CC -!- FUNCTION: G-protein coupled receptor for octopamine (OA), which is a
CC neurotransmitter, neurohormone, and neuromodulator in invertebrates.
CC Activation of this receptor by octopamine induces an increase in both
CC inositol phosphates and cyclic AMP. The coupling to adenylyl cyclase
CC seems to be less efficient than the coupling to phospholipase C. The
CC rank order of potency for agonists is p-synephrine >= clonidine > p-
CC octopamine = xylometazoline = phenylephrine = oxymetazoline > B-HT920 >
CC serotonin = p-tyramine > epinephrine > norepinephrine > methoxamine =
CC dopamine = histamine. For antagonists, the rank order is yohimbine >
CC chlopromazine / spiperone > phentolamine > mianserine > rauwolscine >
CC prazosin > alprenolol / propanolol > pindolol.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in the central nervous system.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.
