CC -!- FUNCTION: Pair-rule protein that determines both the size and polarity
CC of even-numbered as well as odd-numbered parasegments during
CC embryogenesis. DNA-binding transcription factor that acts primarily as
CC a transcriptional repressor but can also function as a transcriptional
CC activator, depending on the stage of development and spatial
CC restrictions. May function redundantly with odd and drm in leg joint
CC formation during the larval stages, acting downstream of Notch
CC activation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14597202, ECO:0000269|PubMed:2120051,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:7750646, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9806933}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Has two temporally distinct modes of expression
CC during early embryogenesis; expressed in seven stripes at the
CC blastoderm stage, then during gastrulation the seven primary stripes
CC are supplemented by secondary stripes which appear in alternate
CC segments. This results in the labelling of every segment in the
CC extended germ band. Also expressed in the embryo in distinct regions of
CC the gut, the Garland cells associated with the proventriculus, the
CC pericardial cells, the lymph glands associated with the heart, in a
CC subset of cells in the central nervous system and in select apodemes.
CC Expressed in a segmentally repeated pattern in the leg disk at the
CC distal edge of each presumptive leg segment except in tarsal segments 1
CC to 4. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10960790, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14597202,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:2120051}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the Odd C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family.
CC {ECO:0000305}.
