CC -!- FUNCTION: Plays a role in detection and sensitivity to pheromones and
CC signal transduction of the fatty-acid-derived male pheromone 11-cis
CC vaccenyl acetate (cVA). Acts in concert with Snmp and lush to capture
CC cVA molecules on the surface of Or67d expressing olfactory dendrites
CC and facilitate their transfer to the odorant-receptor Orco complex.
CC Necessary to mediate behavioral responses to cVA by regulating both
CC male and female mating behavior. Activation of Or67d neurons by cVA
CC inhibits courtship of other males, whereas in females their activation
CC promotes receptivity to other males. May form a complex with Orco to
CC form odorant-sensing units, providing sensitive and prolonged odorant
CC signaling and calcium permeability. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16928861,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:17363250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17392786,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:17943085, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18305480,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:19966787}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with Orco. Complexes exist early in the endomembrane
CC system in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs), coupling these complexes to
CC the conserved ciliary trafficking pathway (By similarity).
CC {ECO:0000250}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane
CC protein {ECO:0000250}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in antenna. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16928861,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:17943085}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Mutant males inappropriately court other males,
CC whereas mutant females are less receptive to courting males.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17392786}.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: The atypical heteromeric and topological design of the
CC odorant receptors appears to be an insect-specific solution for odor
CC recognition, making the OR/Orco complex an attractive target for the
CC development of highly selective insect repellents to disrupt olfactory-
CC mediated host-seeking behaviors of insect disease vectors. Odor-evoked
CC OR currents are independent of known G-protein-coupled second messenger
CC pathways.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the insect chemoreceptor superfamily.
CC Heteromeric odorant receptor channel (TC 1.A.69) family. Or67d
CC subfamily. {ECO:0000305}.
