CC -!- FUNCTION: Transcription factor; part of the gene cluster that mediates
CC the biosynthesis of ochratoxin A (OTA), a mycotoxin demonstrated to
CC have nephrotoxic, immunotoxic, genotoxic, neurotoxic, and teratogenic
CC properties (PubMed:27667988, PubMed:33391201). Positively regulates the
CC expression of the OTA biosynthetic genes and subsequent production of
CC OTA (PubMed:35143724). Probably binds to conserved 5'-ACGT-3' bZIP
CC binding motifs found in multiple copies (3 to 4) in the promoters of
CC the OTA biosynthetic genes (PubMed:35143724). Acts not only as a
CC pathway-specific regulator of the OTA cluster but binds also at other
CC chromosomal positions outside the OTA cluster and can act as a broad
CC regulator (PubMed:35143724). Negatively regulates pathogenicity and
CC plays a critical role in tolerance to reactive oxygen species (ROS)
CC (PubMed:35143724). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:27667988,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:33391201, ECO:0000269|PubMed:35143724}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000255|PROSITE-ProRule:PRU00978}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Leads to the loss of ochratoxin A (OTA)
CC production and the down-regulation of the OTA biosynthetic genes
CC (PubMed:35143724). Produces greater lesions on grape berries and is
CC more tolerant to oxidative stress (PubMed:35143724).
