CC -!- FUNCTION: Antitoxin component of a type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) system.
CC Unlike the case in E.coli K12 high level expression of this protein
CC abrogates the toxic effects due to overexpression of the cognate toxin
CC PasT. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23055930}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Deletion of the pasT-pasI operon causes reduced
CC infection of the mouse kidney but not of the bladder. On rich medium
CC operon deletion decreases bacterial persistence about 100-fold. Forms
CC small colonies on rich medium. Delays growth on minimal medium
CC supplemented with threonine, increased sensitivity to oxidative and
CC nitrosative stress. Growth defects are complemented by low levels of
CC PasT expression. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23055930}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the UPF0125 (RnfH) family. {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- SEQUENCE CAUTION:
CC Sequence=AAN81590.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Extended N-terminus.; Evidence={ECO:0000305};
