CC -!- FUNCTION: Merozoite receptor PK66 is a surface antigen involved in
CC parasite invasion of erythrocytes.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
CC Note=Concentrated at the apical end prior to rupture, following which
CC it can distribute itself entirely across the surface of the free
CC merozoite. During invasion PK66 is excluded from the erythrocyte at,
CC and behind, the invasion interface.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: PK66 expressed in mature schizonts is rapidly processed
CC as the schizont ruptures, yielding a 42/44 kDa doublet associated with
CC the surface merozoite.
