CC -!- FUNCTION: Regulator of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling in
CC phototransduction. Participates in the recovery phase of visual
CC transduction via its interaction with RGS9-1 isoform. Acts as a
CC membrane-anchor that mediates the targeting of RGS9-1 to the
CC photoreceptor outer segment, where phototransduction takes place.
CC Enhances the ability of RGS9-1 to stimulate G protein GTPase activity,
CC allowing the visual signal to be terminated on the physiologically time
CC scale. It also controls the proteolytic stability of RGS9-1, probably
CC by protecting it from degradation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12560335,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:14625292, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16908407,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:16939221}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Specifically interacts with isoform RGS9-1 of RGS9.
CC Interaction is decreased when RGS9-1 is phosphorylated at 'Ser-475'.
CC Component of the RGS9-1-Gbeta5 complex composed of RGS9-1, Gbeta5
CC (GNB5) and RGS9BP. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12119397,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:12499365, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14614075,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:16908407}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12119397}; Single-
CC pass type IV membrane protein {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12119397}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Predominantly expressed in photoreceptors of the
CC retina. Weakly expressed in other areas of the central nervous system.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12119397, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14664818}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Mice show light responses that recover at a
CC abnormally slow rate. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14625292}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the RGS7BP/RGS9BP family. {ECO:0000305}.
