CC -!- FUNCTION: RamA is a master regulator of acetate metabolism. It
CC positively controls the expression of acnA, aceA, aceB, ack, pta and
CC ramB genes in the presence of acetate (PubMed:16547043,
CC PubMed:17114251, PubMed:19095019). RamA is also a positive regulator of
CC rpf2 gene expression during growth on glucose as the sole carbon source
CC (PubMed:18355281). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16547043,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:17114251, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18355281,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:19095019}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: RamA represses its own expression.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17183211}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Cells lacking this gene grow on acetate with the
CC same aconitase activity as cells on glucose. This mutant is unable to
CC grow on acetate as the sole carbon and energy source and, in comparison
CC to the wild-type, shows very low specific activities of
CC phosphotransacetylase, acetate kinase, isocitrate lyase, and malate
CC synthase, irrespective of the presence of acetate in the medium
CC (PubMed:16547043, PubMed:19095019). The transcription level of the rpf2
CC gene is reduced 2.5-fold in the ramA deletion mutant during growth on
CC glucose as the sole carbon source (PubMed:18355281).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16547043, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18355281,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:19095019}.
