CC -!- FUNCTION: RNA-directed RNA polymerase that replicates the viral (+) and
CC (-) genome. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:8990396}.
CC -!- CATALYTIC ACTIVITY:
CC Reaction=a ribonucleoside 5'-triphosphate + RNA(n) = diphosphate +
CC RNA(n+1); Xref=Rhea:RHEA:21248, Rhea:RHEA-COMP:14527, Rhea:RHEA-
CC COMP:17342, ChEBI:CHEBI:33019, ChEBI:CHEBI:61557, ChEBI:CHEBI:140395;
CC EC=2.7.7.48;
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Forms a ribonucleoprotein complex with the 20S RNA, where a
CC single polymerase molecule binds to a single viral RNA genome. Since
CC the viral RNA is not encapsidated, ribonucleoprotein complex formation
CC appears to be the strategy to survive in the host as persistent virus.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10833519, ECO:0000269|PubMed:7650026}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Host cytoplasm {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10833519}.
CC Note=The virus has no extracellular transmission pathway. It exists as
CC a ribonucleoprotein viral particle in the host cytoplasm and can be
CC transmitted through mating or cytoplasmic mixing (cytoduction).
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: Yeast strains also contain a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)
CC called W. The (+)-strand of W is identical to the single-stranded 20S
CC RNA. The W dsRNA seems to be a by-product of the viral RNA replication
CC cycle.
