CC -!- FUNCTION: Testis-specific component of the ribosome, which is required
CC for the transition from prophase to metaphase in male meiosis I (By
CC similarity). Compensates for the inactivated X-linked RPL10 paralog
CC during spermatogenesis. The ribosome is a large ribonucleoprotein
CC complex responsible for the synthesis of proteins in the cell. The
CC small ribosomal subunit (SSU) binds messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and
CC translates the encoded message by selecting cognate aminoacyl-transfer
CC RNA (tRNA) molecules. The large subunit (LSU) contains the ribosomal
CC catalytic site termed the peptidyl transferase center (PTC), which
CC catalyzes the formation of peptide bonds, thereby polymerizing the
CC amino acids delivered by tRNAs into a polypeptide chain. The nascent
CC polypeptides leave the ribosome through a tunnel in the LSU and
CC interact with protein factors that function in enzymatic processing,
CC targeting, and the membrane insertion of nascent chains at the exit of
