CC -!- FUNCTION: May play a synaptic role at the postsynaptic lipid rafts
CC possibly through interaction with CAMK2A.
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q920K5}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with CAMK2A. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q920K5}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15749074}. Synapse,
CC synaptosome {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q920K5}. Membrane raft
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q920K5}. Postsynaptic density
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q920K5}. Note=In neurons, localizes to
CC postsynaptic lipid rafts (By similarity). In myocardial and skeletal
CC muscle cells, localizes to the cytoplasm adjacent to the inner cell
CC membrane, polarized to one end of the myocyte (PubMed:15749074).

CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: At the mRNA level, predominantly expressed in the
CC brain (PubMed:11707601). At the protein level, mainly expressed in
CC muscle tissues. In skeletal muscles, expressed in cranial and facial
CC muscles, muscles of the neck, back, thoracic wall, and thigh. Also
CC found in the contractile myoepithelial cell layer of salivary glands.
CC In smooth muscles, expressed in the gastric wall, uterus, urinary
CC bladder, as well as in the muscular lining around seminiferous tubules,
CC prostatic ducts, epididymis, vas deferens, walls of small blood vessels
CC in the dermis, and fascial layers between muscle fibers, brain, and
CC around the spinal cord. Strongly expressed in myocardium. High
CC expression levels are observed in placental spongiotrophoblast and
CC adjacent myometrium. Also expressed in bone marrow hematopoietic cells.
CC In the mature thymus, expressed in rare scattered cells. Weakly
CC expressed in the brain neuropil, particularly near the hippocampus, and
CC spinal cord white matter. Not detected in skin keratinocytes or lung
CC (at protein level) (PubMed:15749074). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11707601,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:15749074}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: During embryonic development, prominently
CC expressed in muscle tissues, including myocardium, skeletal and smooth
CC muscles, and weakly in the developing central nervous system (only in
CC the neuropil). At 9 dpc, expressed in the wall and trabeculae of the
CC developing heart tube, in the caudal end of the midline dorsal aorta,
CC and a focal area of the mesenchyme around the developing brain. Weakly
CC expressed in marginal and ependymal layers of the early neural tube. At
CC 11-12.5 dpc, expression persists in the myocardium. Scattered signal in
CC the mesoderm on either side of the developing neural tube. Also found
CC in the region of dermatomyotomes. Appears to be associated with the
CC early pre-muscle mesoderm and later with myoblasts and myocytes of the
CC paravertebral, back, body wall and limb muscles. At 13-15 dpc, besides
CC the myocardium, expression is seen in the skeletal muscles of the
CC limbs, intercostal muscles, and the diaphragm, as well as in the
CC developing muscle layer in the wall of the few intestinal coils present
CC in the abdominal cavity. Also found in various components of the
CC mesenchymal precartilage forming the framework of the cranium and the
CC face, notably, the base of the skull, frontonasal process and parts of
CC the primitive maxillary and mandibular processes. Around 13 dpc,
CC detected in the brain lateral ventricles and the roof of the fourth
CC ventricle. At 15 dpc, scattered groups of positive cells are observed
CC in the liver, around the venous sinuses. Weakly expressed in the brain
CC and spinal cord white matter. Prominent membrane expression in the
CC choroid plexus and meninges. At 15-18 dpc, transiently expressed in the
CC layers of ectodermal cells covering the embryo and in immature cells of
CC the lung buds. From 16 dpc to postnatal day 2, no change in the basic
CC pattern of expression (at protein level).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15749074}.
