CC transport system SiaPT involved in the uptake of sialic acid (N-acetyl-
CC beta-neuraminate). N-Acetylneuraminate can then be incorporated into
CC the lipooligosaccharides (LOS) as a terminal non-reducing sugar,
CC protecting the bacterium from complement-mediated killing by normal
