CC Expression of mRNA starts at 8 hours of development when loose
CC aggregates form and remains constant until the onset of culmination at
CC 20 hours when a significant increase is observed.

CC -!- INDUCTION: Induced by the protein kinase A (PKA) which is activated
CC during culmination. This leads to the expression of srfA in prespore
CC cells.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Cells have an abnormal spore morphology and show
CC a greatly reduced spore viability. No defects in the overall morphology
CC of the structures were observed during development, except for a delay
CC of 3-4 hours in culmination. Prestalk gene expression is normal.
CC Expression of the prespore marker cotB is unaffected whereas expression
CC of the spore gene spiA is greatly reduced. Mutant spore show no
CC formation of mature actin rods. The spore outer layer gets wavier as
CC the spore ages and suffers a progressive degradation.
