CC -!- FUNCTION: Involved in sporulation-specific cell division
CC (PubMed:19567872). Required for early stages of sporulation. Important
CC in the process of growth cessation prior to sporulation-specific cell
CC division (PubMed:12900022). Recruits cell division protein FtsZ to the
CC future septum sites and tethers the contractile ring structure (Z ring)
CC to the cytoplasmic membrane during sporulation (PubMed:21205868).
CC Stimulates polymerization and filament length of FtsZ in vitro (By
CC similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q47N25,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:12900022, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19567872,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with SsgA. Interacts with FtsZ (via N-terminus).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell septum {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19567872,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868}. Note=Localizes to the divisome in
CC sporogenic aerial hyphae in a ladder-like manner (PubMed:19567872,
CC PubMed:21205868). Temporospatial localization is controlled by SsgA and
CC it colocalizes with SsgA in presporulation foci. Localizes to the
CC septum sites prior to FtsZ and after that colocalizes with FtsZ at the
CC divisome throughout cell division (PubMed:21205868).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19567872, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Induced at the time of aerial mycelium formation
CC and is most abundant during sporulation (PubMed:12111561). Induced
CC during late aerial growth and early sporulation (PubMed:16262781).
CC Present at early division stages, predivision stage and sporulation
CC stage (PubMed:21205868). Mainly expressed during late development (72
CC h) corresponding to sporulation stage, but in the presence of whiA
CC mutant its transcription is more than 3-fold reduced and in the
CC presence of whiH mutant it is nearly absent (PubMed:26002075).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12111561, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16262781,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868, ECO:0000269|PubMed:26002075}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Transcriptionally regulated by stress-response sigma factor
CC SigH of RNA polymerase (PubMed:12111561). Transcriptionally regulated
CC by BldD (PubMed:20979333). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12111561,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:20979333}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Does not sporulate as evidenced by the white
CC phenotype of the aerial mycelium compared to the wild-type gray
CC (PubMed:19567872, PubMed:16262781, PubMed:12900022). Produces long non-
CC coiling aerial hyphae typical of developmental mutants arrested in a
CC very early stage of aerial growth (PubMed:19567872). No effect on
CC vegetative growth or production of the pigmented antibiotics
CC undecylprodigiosin and actinorhodin. Aerial hyphae occasionally undergo
CC typical coiling indicating that mutation affects also later stages of
CC the development. Aerial mycelium does not septate into spore
CC compartments (PubMed:14513208). Increased levels of actinorhodin
CC production. Colonies are significantly larger than wild-type and they
CC continue to expand prior to the onset of sporulation whereas in wild-
CC type the growth slows considerably. No DNA segregation. Aerial hyphae
CC show irregularly shaped globular compartments often having tiny side
CC branches, but the compartments are not separated by septa. Significant
CC number of collapsed hyphae. Fails to grow at concentrations of 750 mM
CC NaCl or higher (PubMed:12900022). Does not form Z ladders which are
CC typical of sporulation-specific cell division, but still forms
CC individual septa such as cross-walls in vegetative hyphae
CC (PubMed:21205868). Produces some deformed spore-like bodies when ftsZ
CC is constitutively expressed, but no intact spores are produced and only
CC 41% of them are viable. They are very sensitive to exposure to both
CC heat and lysozyme. The DNA in them has a spiky appearance and is
CC surrounded by an unknown white electron-lucent mass, while the cell
CC wall is as thin as that of aerial hyphae (PubMed:22113698).
CC Transcription of ssgG is constitutive, ssgC transcription is enhanced
CC and transcription of ssgE and ssgF are moderately up-regulated
CC (PubMed:26002075). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12900022,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:14513208, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16262781,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:19567872, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21205868,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:22113698, ECO:0000269|PubMed:26002075}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the SsgA family. {ECO:0000305}.
CC -!- SEQUENCE CAUTION:
CC Sequence=CAB70943.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Extended N-terminus.; Evidence={ECO:0000305};
