CC -!- FUNCTION: Essential in the female germline for proper survival, sex
CC determination and differentiation. Participates in the transcriptional
CC activation of Otu. Does not regulate the expression of Ovo.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10101125, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9093851}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10101125}.
CC Note=Associates with decondensed chromatin, including sites of active
CC transcription.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Germ cells specific. Expressed in all germ cells.
CC During the first instar larvae, it is expressed in all germ cells of
CC both sexes. In third instar larvae, it decreases in male germ cells
CC while it remains in female germ cells. In adult ovary, it is expressed
CC in cells of the germarium, including the stem cells. In the early
CC previtellogenic stages, it is highly expressed in the nurse cells.
CC During vitellogenesis, it is not translocated into the maturing egg. In
CC testes, it is only expressed during some steps of male germline
CC differentiation. At the apex testis, it is expressed at low level in
CC stem cells and dividing spermatogonia, while in newly formed 16-cell
CC cysts of primary spermatocytes, it is transiently but strongly
CC expressed before vanishing during spermatocyte growth phase.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10101125, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9093851}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: In embryos, it is expressed from stage 11 in the
CC germ cell soon after their migration through the midgut epithelium.
