CC -!- FUNCTION: Plays a role in the inhibition of host innate immune system
CC by targeting the CGAS enzymatic activity which is the principal
CC cytosolic DNA sensor that detects invading viral DNA (PubMed:26320998).
CC Acts by inhibiting CGAS-DNA phase separation: directly binds double-
CC stranded DNA (dsDNA) in a length dependent but sequence independent
CC manner and is able to form DNA-induced phase separation in infected
CC cells. DNA phase separation of ORF52 mediates disruption of liquid-like
CC droplets in which CGAS is activated, thereby preventing CGAS activity
CC (By similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q2HR80,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:26320998}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Homooligomer; homooligomerizes and binds double-stranded DNA
CC (dsDNA) cooperatively (By similarity). Interacts with host CGAS
CC (PubMed:26320998). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q2HR80,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:26320998}.
CC -!- INTERACTION:

CC P0C717; K9USF9: BMLF1; Xeno; NbExp=2; IntAct=EBI-9644994, EBI-9645143;
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Virion tegument {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P03197}.
CC Host cytoplasm {ECO:0000269|PubMed:26320998}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the herpesviridae BLRF2 family. {ECO:0000305}.
