CC -!- FUNCTION: Plays a role in the inhibition of host innate immune system
CC by targeting the CGAS enzymatic activity which is the principal
CC cytosolic DNA sensor that detects invading viral DNA. Acts by
CC inhibiting CGAS-DNA phase separation: directly binds double-stranded
CC DNA (dsDNA) in a length dependent but sequence independent manner and
CC is able to form DNA-induced phase separation in infected cells. DNA
CC phase separation of ORF52 mediates disruption of liquid-like droplets
CC in which CGAS is activated, thereby preventing CGAS activity.
CC {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q2HR80}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Homooligomer; homooligomerizes and binds double-stranded DNA
CC (dsDNA) cooperatively (By similarity). Interacts with host CGAS (By
CC similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q2HR80}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Virion tegument {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15534216}.
CC Host cytoplasm {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P0C717}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the herpesviridae BLRF2 family. {ECO:0000305}.
