CC -!- FUNCTION: Snake venom natriuretic peptide that exhibits hypotensive and
CC vasorelaxant effects. Produces a dose-dependent hypotension in rats,
CC followed by significant increases in concentrations of markers of
CC nitric oxide (NO) formation measured in the plasma and vasorelaxation
CC in a thoracic aortic ring bath. The peptide may exert its hypotensive
CC action, at least in part, through stimulation of NO production. The
CC vasorelaxant effect is endothelium-dependent and does not appear to be
CC mediated by the natriuretic peptide receptor-A, as its action is not
CC modified by isatin (a potent NPR1 antagonist). May act by activating
CC the natriuretic peptide receptor-B (NPR2).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22617223}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22617223}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the venom gland.
CC {ECO:0000305|PubMed:22617223}.
CC -!- MASS SPECTROMETRY: Mass=3419.88; Method=MALDI; Note=Average mass.;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|PubMed:22617223};
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: The hypotensive effect is not mediated by the
CC natriuretic peptide receptor-A (NPR1). {ECO:0000305|PubMed:22617223}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the natriuretic peptide family. Snake NP
CC subfamily. {ECO:0000255}.
