CC -!- FUNCTION: Toxic component of a probable type I toxin-antitoxin (TA)
CC system. Neutralized by sRNA antitoxin TimR which binds to the 5' UTR of
CC timP mRNA and inhibits translation. When TimP is expressed from its
CC promoter in the absence of antitoxin leads to mild cell stress;
CC overexpression in situ is toxic to the cell and causes membrane
CC leakage. The antitoxin gene is encoded immediately upstream and
CC transcribed divergently from the toxin gene; antitoxin RNA is less
CC stable than timP mRNA. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:33172998}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell inner membrane
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:33172998}; Single-pass membrane protein
CC {ECO:0000305|PubMed:33172998}. Note=The signal sequence is not cleaved
CC and anchors the protein in the cell inner membrane.
CC {ECO:0000305|PubMed:33172998}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Expressed under many growth conditions, up-regulated in
CC macrophages. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:24331466}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: No changes in biofilm formation, persister cell
CC formation or bacteriophage resistance; no visible phenotype for a
CC double timR-timP deletion. A timR deletion leads to mild envelope
CC stress. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:33172998}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the TimP toxin family. {ECO:0000305}.
