CC -!- FUNCTION: Is toxic to both insects and mammals. Induces reversible
CC paralysis when injected into S.frugiperda larvae. Reduces both the
CC amplitude and frequency of responses from muscle (GF-TTM and GF-DLM)
CC pathways in the D.melanogaster giant fiber circuit, suggesting an
CC action at the neuromuscular junction, which is mediated by
CC glutamatergic receptors. In mice, intracranial injection of 30 ug
CC causes increased urination, myoclonus, hypermotility with circular
CC movements followed by respiratory and generalized seizures resulting in
CC death within 25-35 minutes of injection. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23496776}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23496776}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the venom gland.
CC {ECO:0000305|PubMed:23496776}.
CC -!- MASS SPECTROMETRY: Mass=5457.79; Method=MALDI;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|PubMed:23496776};
CC -!- TOXIC DOSE: PD(50) is 13 ug/g in insect larvae (S.frugiperda) (at 8
CC hours post-injection). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23496776}.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: Has no effect on human Nav1.2/SCN2A, Nav1.4/SCN4A,
CC Nav1.5/SCN5A or Nav1.6/SCN8A voltage-gated potassium channels (at 1
CC uM). Does not alter the response induced by acetylcholine in a
CC rhabdomyosarcoma cell preparation (at 1 uM).
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the neurotoxin 12 (Hwtx-2) family. 01 (Ap1a)
CC subfamily. {ECO:0000305}.
