CC -!- FUNCTION: Required for efficient ubiquinone (coenzyme Q) biosynthesis
CC under aerobic conditions. UbiK is probably an accessory factor of Ubi
CC enzymes and facilitates ubiquinone biosynthesis by acting as an
CC assembly factor, a targeting factor, or both. Dispensable for
CC ubiquinone biosynthesis under anaerobiosis (PubMed:28559279). Required
CC for proliferation in macrophages and virulence in mice
CC (PubMed:28559279, PubMed:21554724). Significantly contributes to
CC colonization and invasion as well as host inflammation and innate
CC immunity after infection (PubMed:27777572). In vitro, has membrane
CC fusogenic activity at acidic pH (PubMed:21554724).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21554724, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27777572,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:28559279}.
CC -!- PATHWAY: Cofactor biosynthesis; ubiquinone biosynthesis.
CC {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_02216, ECO:0000305|PubMed:28559279}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Homotrimer. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21554724}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_02216,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:21554724}. Note=Is both soluble and membrane
CC associated inside the cell. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21554724}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Mutant is growth-deficient under aerobic
CC conditions and is impaired to replicate at physiological and high
CC temperatures (PubMed:21554724, PubMed:28559279). Mutant is defective
CC for proliferation in macrophages and mice infection and has a severe
CC attenuation in virulence in the murine model when inoculated both
CC orally and intraperitoneally (PubMed:21554724, PubMed:28559279).
CC Deletion inhibits colonization and invasion of four human cell lines,
CC impairs flagella formation, activates the expression of type-1
CC fimbriae-like structures on the cell surface, enhances biofilm
CC formation and reduces bacterial motility. The deletion mutant is
CC menaquinone-deficient (PubMed:27777572). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21554724,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:27777572, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28559279}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the UbiK family. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-
CC Rule:MF_02216, ECO:0000305}.
