CC -!- FUNCTION: This toxin is a potent hemolysin devoid of enzymatic
CC activity. Its hemolytic activity is inhibited by sphingomyelin but not
CC by cholesterol. In erythrocyte membranes, it causes numerous cell
CC membrane ruptures. It also exerces cytotoxicity to different cell
CC lines. It exerces a positive inotropic effect. Also causes hemorrhage
CC and necrosis by dilation of the blood vessels in the skin, and vascular
CC leakage of fluids and rupture of alveolar walls of the lungs. Is a
CC potent ichtyotoxin. May act as a pore-forming toxin.
