RT "A flagellar calmodulin gene of Naegleria, coexpressed during
RT differentiation with flagellar tubulin genes, shares DNA, RNA, and encoded
RT protein sequence elements.";
RL J. Biol. Chem. 270:5839-5848(1995).
CC -!- FUNCTION: Calmodulin mediates the control of a large number of enzymes,
CC ion channels and other proteins by Ca(2+). Among the enzymes to be
CC stimulated by the calmodulin-Ca(2+) complex are a number of protein
CC kinases and phosphatases.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell projection, cilium, flagellum.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Two calmodulins are synthesized during
CC differentiation of Naegleria gruberi from amoebae to flagellates; one
CC remains in the cell body and the other becomes localized in the
CC flagella. Flagellar calmodulin first appears during early stages of
CC differentiation, is maximally expressed at the time that flagella first
CC appear and then levels rapidly decline.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: This protein has four functional calcium-binding sites.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the calmodulin family. {ECO:0000305}.
