CC -!- FUNCTION: Transcription factor. Interacts specifically with the W box
CC (5'-(T)TGAC[CT]-3'), a frequently occurring elicitor-responsive cis-
CC acting element (By similarity). Together with WRKY70, negative
CC regulator of developmental senescence, probably via the regulation of
CC several senescence-associated markers genes (PubMed:22268143). Positive
CC regulator of EDS1-dependent defense against E.amylovora
CC (PubMed:22316300). In collaboration with WRKY70, prevents stomatal
CC closure and, consequently, osmotic stress tolerance (PubMed:23815736).
CC Together with WRKY46 and WRKY70, promotes brassinosteroid (BR)-
CC regulated plant growth but prevent drought response by modulating gene
CC expression (PubMed:28576847). Negative regulator of SA biosynthesis
CC (PubMed:28837631). Prevents defense response to the necrotrophic
CC pathogens P.carotovorum and B.cinerea, but promotes defense against
CC biotrophic/hemibiotrophic pathogens P.syringae pv. tomato (Pst) DC3000,
CC probably by regulating negatively the jasmonic acid (JA)/ethylene (ET)
CC and positively the salicylic acid (SA) signaling pathways
CC (PubMed:28837631). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9SUP6,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22316300,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:23815736, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28576847,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:28837631, ECO:0000303|PubMed:28837631}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: Interacts with WRKY30 (PubMed:22268143). Binds to BZR2/BES1 to
CC cooperatively regulate the expression of target genes. Interacts with
CC ASK7/BIN2 (PubMed:28576847). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:28576847}.
CC -!- INTERACTION:
CC Q93WU8; Q9SZI2: NAP1;1; NbExp=3; IntAct=EBI-15207592, EBI-4424361;
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus {ECO:0000255|PROSITE-ProRule:PRU00223}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in leaves. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143}.
CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: In leaves, level increases gradually up to the
CC point of leaf senescence. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and salicylic acid
CC (SA) (PubMed:22268143). Early but transient accumulation after osmotic
CC stress (e.g. polyethylene glycol, PEG) (PubMed:23815736). Up-regulated
CC by E.amylovora (PubMed:22316300). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:22316300, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23815736}.
CC -!- PTM: Phosphorylated and destabilized by ASK7/BIN2.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:28576847}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Promotion of leaf senescence associated with
CC abnormal expression levels of several senescence-associated markers
CC genes. The double mutant wrky54 wrky70 exhibits stronger leaf
CC senescence symptoms (PubMed:22268143). Increase in the number of
CC necrotic leaves and in the intensity of necrosis in response to
CC E.amylovora (PubMed:22316300). The double mutant wrky54 wrky70 exhibits
CC an enhanced tolerance to osmotic stress associated with improved water
CC retention and enhanced stomatal closure as well as salicylic acid (SA)
CC accumulation, but a reduced induction of osmotic stress-responsive
CC genes and reduced accumulation of the osmoprotectant proline
CC (PubMed:23815736). Unstressed wrky54 wrky70 double mutant exhibits
CC increased levels of SA, moderate accumulation of hydrogen peroxide
CC H(2)O(2) and up-regulated expression of both SA and JA/ethylene (ET)
CC responsive defense related genes; thus promoting cell wall
CC fortification and consequently enhancing resistance to necrotrophic
CC pathogens (e.g. P.carotovorum and B.cinerea) associated with reduced
CC cell death, but is not sufficient to trigger hypersensitive reaction
CC (HR)-like cell death and resistance to biotrophic/hemibiotrophic
CC pathogens (e.g. P.syringae), characterized by reduced amount of callose
CC (PubMed:28837631). The triple mutant wrky46 wrky54 wrky70 has defects
CC in brassinosteroid (BR)-regulated growth and is more tolerant to
CC drought stress (PubMed:28576847). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22268143,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:22316300, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23815736,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:28576847, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28837631}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the WRKY group III family. {ECO:0000305}.
