CC -!- FUNCTION: Plays a role in spermatogenesis, where it is important for
CC normal sperm head morphology. Also required for the acrosome reaction
CC and thus normal male fertility. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:29733332}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Specifically expressed in testis (at protein
CC level). Not detected in other tissues tested (at protein level). In the
CC testis, localizes to pachytene spermatocytes and spermatids.

CC -!- DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Detected from postnatal day 14 onwards. Maintained

CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: No gross phenotype. Males have significantly
CC reduced fertility. Testis weight, testis histology and sperm counts are
CC normal. Approximately 25% of sperm have morphological defects in the
CC sperm head and sperm nucleus, while morphology of the sperm flagellum
CC appears normal. Capacitation-induced sperm motility is initially
CC slightly reduced but then recovers. Frequency of both spontaenous and
CC P4-induced acrosome reactions are significantly reduced. In an in-vitro
CC fertilization assay, spermatozoa are able to bind and penetrate the
CC oocyte perivitelline space but fertilizing capacity is severely
