CC -!- FUNCTION: Required during biogenesis of c-type cytochromes (cytochrome
CC c6 and cytochrome f) at the step of heme attachment. {ECO:0000250}.
CC -!- FUNCTION: Probably not involved in heme transport or reduction as
CC mutants deleted for the first 24 residues cannot be rescued by growth
CC in the presence of heme or reductant. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10542282}.
CC -!- SUBUNIT: May interact with CcsA. {ECO:0000250}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cellular thylakoid membrane
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12427747}; Multi-pass membrane protein
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12427747}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Bacteria lacking the N-terminus of CcsB are able
CC to grow anaerobically but not aerobically, suggesting its function is
CC essential for aerobic growth. In these bacteria reduced amounts of some
CC holo-c-type cytochromes are observed (cytochrome f and cytochrome
CC c550); unprocessed precursor apocytochrome f accumulates but is not
CC thought to be integrated into the cytochrome b6-f complex. Holo-
CC cytochrome c553 (also known as cytochrome c6) does not accumulate
CC however. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10542282}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the Ccs1/CcsB family. {ECO:0000305}.
