CC -!- FUNCTION: Involved in the transmission of sensory signals from the
CC chemoreceptors to the flagellar motors. CheV and CheW are involved in
CC the coupling of the methyl-accepting chemoreceptors to the central two-
CC component kinase CheA; they are both necessary for efficient
CC chemotaxis. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:1601874, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8169224}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Chemotaxis is substantially impaired, with a 30-
CC fold reduction in the efficiency of chemotaxis with aspartate and 11-
CC fold reduction with 2-deoxyglucose. Inactivation of cheW appears to
CC have a subtle effect on chemotactic behavior in the absence of
CC chemoeffectors: the bacteria display a smooth swimming bias, with some
CC tumbling. A double mutant lacking both CheV and CheW has a strong
CC tumble bias, does not respond to addition of attractant, shows
CC essentially no accumulation in capillary assays, and has greatly
CC reduced methyl turnover on the methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins
CC (MCPs). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:1601874, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8169224}.
