CC -!- FUNCTION: Key stress-response regulator that plays an important role in
CC multiple regulatory networks in response to different stress conditions
CC (PubMed:20701538, PubMed:24705585). Required to manage host-derived
CC stress during infection (PubMed:20701538). Plays a role during hypoxia
CC and reaeration (PubMed:25422323). Controls the expression of many genes
CC involved in heat shock, virulence, lipid metabolism, transport or
CC regulation, including clpP1, clpP2, clpC1, hsp, groES, otsA, pknD, prcA
CC and prcB (PubMed:19376862, PubMed:20701538). May function by protecting
CC intracellular redox potential and by inducing the expression of
CC trehalose, a constituent of cell walls that is important for defense
CC against cell-surface and oxidative stress (PubMed:20701538). Also
CC performs different functions during stress response and is important
CC for the pathogenicity of M.tuberculosis in vivo, regardless of the
CC induction of the Clp proteolytic pathway (PubMed:24705585). May
CC directly activate SigE and/or SigH (PubMed:24705585).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19376862, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20701538,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:24705585, ECO:0000269|PubMed:25422323}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Expression requires SigE and SigH (PubMed:19376862,
CC PubMed:20701538). Induced in response to environmental stress, such as
CC redox stress, heat shock, acid shock, SDS stress and thioridazine (THZ)
CC (PubMed:20701538, PubMed:19376862). Induced in host phagocytes
CC (PubMed:20701538). Induced by hypoxia and reaeration (PubMed:25422323).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19376862, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20701538,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:25422323}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Mutant is able to replicate without any defect
CC during hypoxia, but it is significantly impaired in its ability to
CC resume its growth during the subsequent reaeration phase.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:25422323}.
