RT "Conolysin-Mt: a conus peptide that disrupts cellular membranes.";
RL Biochemistry 46:12586-12593(2007).
CC -!- FUNCTION: This cytolytic peptide has ability to disrupt the integrity
CC of cell membranes from both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It
CC permeabilizes both negatively charged prokaryotic (PE:PG) and
CC zwitterionic eukaryotic (PC:cholesterol) model membranes. It has potent
CC hemolytic activity on human erythrocytes and exhibits low antimicrobial
CC activity against the Gram-negative bacterium E.coli (MIC>50 uM) and the
CC Gram-positive bacterium S.aureus (MIC=25-50 uM). Intracranial injection
CC causes mice to shuffle backward until the encounter an obstacle, at
CC which time the mouse jump into the air. The backward shuffle is
CC reminiscent to the signature dance 'moonwalk' that gained widespread
CC popularity after being performed by Michael Jackson.

CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17927208}.
CC -!- TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the venom duct.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17927208}.
CC -!- MASS SPECTROMETRY: [Conolysin-Mt1]: Mass=2750.40; Method=MALDI;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|PubMed:17927208};
CC -!- MASS SPECTROMETRY: [Conolysin-Mt2]: Mass=2692.45; Method=MALDI;
CC Evidence={ECO:0000269|PubMed:17927208};
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: The mature peptide does not contain cysteine residue.
CC -!- MISCELLANEOUS: Mt1 and Mt2 peptides are found in a ratio of 1:4. Mt1 is
CC more active when intracranially injected.
