CC -!- FUNCTION: Chemotactic-signal transducers respond to changes in the
CC concentration of attractants and repellents in the environment,
CC transduce a signal from the outside to the inside of the cell, and
CC facilitate sensory adaptation through the variation of the level of
CC methylation. Chemoreceptor for inorganic phosphate, which is required
CC for taxis at low concentrations of phosphate. Is also responsible for
CC the positive chemotaxis toward 4-chloroaniline (4CA) and catechol
CC (PubMed:10852870, PubMed:24038698). Does not recognize inorganic
CC phosphate directly, but via a complex between the periplasmic protein
CC PstS and inorganic phosphate (PubMed:27353565).
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10852870, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24038698,
CC ECO:0000269|PubMed:27353565}.
CC -!- SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell inner membrane
CC {ECO:0000305|PubMed:27353565}; Multi-pass membrane protein
CC {ECO:0000255}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Induced by phosphate limitation, via the PhoR/PhoB two-
CC component regulatory system. Repressed by PhoU under conditions of
CC phosphate excess. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10852870}.
CC -!- SIMILARITY: Belongs to the methyl-accepting chemotaxis (MCP) protein
CC family. {ECO:0000305}.
