CC -!- FUNCTION: Appears to contribute to D.radiodurans capacity to survive
CC exposure to ionizing radiation. May play a role in DNA repair and
CC genome reconstitution. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15454524}.
CC -!- INDUCTION: Induced to high levels following extreme ionizing radiation
CC exposure. Also highly induced in response to desiccation stress.
CC {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15454524}.
CC -!- DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Cells lacking this gene show a normal growth
CC rate, do not exhibit a decrease in the efficiency of natural
CC transformation, and is as resistant to ionizing radiation as wild-type.
CC However, deletion of the ddrC gene decreases the ionizing radiation
CC resistance of the ddrB mutant strain or the recA mutant strain, and
CC appears to increase that of the pprA mutant strain. Moreover, cells
CC lacking both ddrC and ddrD exhibit a slight (two-fold) increase in
CC sensitivity to ionizing radiation, but this phenotype is apparent only
CC at the highest applied doses. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15454524}.
